APPROVED METHODOLOGY FOR ADAPTING PRIORITY AREAS FOR PREVENTION AND SAFETY (APPS) AGAINST RURAL FIRES TO THE REALITY OF THE TERRITORIES

On February 24th, at an extraordinary meeting of the National Commission for Rural Fire Integrated Management (CNGIFR), it was unanimously approved the methodology presented by ICNF after work developed with ANEPC, DGT, AGIF and ANMP to adapt the Priority Areas of Prevention and Safety (APPS).

The APPS are territories where constraints apply to building and carrying out various activities, and are based on areas where the susceptibility to rural fires is particularly high.

With this methodology, the Sub-Regional Commissions for the Rural Fire Integrated Management can adapt the APPS to the reality of each territory, without jeopardizing their development and enjoyment. The need to amend Decree Law 82/2021, of October 13, has been identified, so that this methodology can produce all its effects.

The approved methodology will also contribute to achieving the Vision of the National Plan for Rural Fire Integrated Management “Portugal protected from serious rural fires” without jeopardizing the social, economic and environmental development of the territories.

The CNGIFR is made up of 17 entities, namely the Agency for Rural Fire the Integrated Management (AGIF) which it chairs, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Air Force General Staff as the National Aeronautical Authority, the National Republican Guard, the Public Security Police, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, the League of Portuguese Firefighters the Judiciary Police, the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, the National Association of Parishes, the Institute of Nature Conservation and Forests, the Directorate General of the Territory, the Institute of Mobility and Transport, the Infrastructures of Portugal, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Directorate General of Food and Veterinary and the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere.
